Founded in Bologna in 1914, Maserati is an Italian brand of super luxurious high performance cars. Beautifully designed, aesthetically stunning, Maserati captures their mission statement within their models:

“Build ultra-luxury performance automobiles with timeless Italian style, accommodating bespoke interiors, and effortless, signature sounding power”

As with the majority of Italian manufacturers, Maserati is owned by Fiat and has been since 1993. However Maserati was first taken over in 1968 by French giant, Citroën and before this the firm was sold to the Adolfo Orsi family – in 1937. The Orsi family relocated the business from Bologna to Modena where it remains to this day – along with Ferrari and with Lamborghini just down the road – seems like quite a successful place to base manufacturers of ultra high end, luxurious supercars.

In 1997 Fiat sold 50% of the Maserati ownership to Maserati’s long time rival (and arch enemy) Ferrari – with Ferrari going on to become the overall owner by 1999. Rather than do anything untoward, Ferrari updated the facilities and brought Maserati from the edge of bankruptcy to the modern world where as Ferrari’s luxury division it produces some of the finest cars in the world.
