Lexus is a brand of the Toyota family, it is their luxury vehicle division. Intended to go head to head with the big three big German manufacturers for executive vehicles starting around £25,000 and going up to over £100,000. Some theories about what the name Lexus stands for include a combination of the words “Luxury” and “Excellence” while a more popular theory is that it stands for “Luxury EXport for the US market”.

Codenamed the F1 project, the Toyota Chairman issued a challenge for his company to produce the best car in the world. This was in 1983, 6 years later in 1989 Lexus was founded to take all of the learnings from this exercise and put them to use in creating a world class business executive car.

Having found solid sales figures with their early models both in their domestic Japanese market and overseas, the Lexus brand was firmly established as a luxury car manufacturer – providing the basis for future growth.

The IS. GS and LS models were joined by new variants from 2006 including the 2010 Lexus CT – a Hybrid model targeting the small car market.

The Lexus L-FA supercar was manufactured from 2010-2012, and sought to take technology to the supercar market, at a level never previously seen. Easily Lexus’s most expensive model, the UK list price was £343,000!
