Jeep is a division of the huge car group FCA US LLC (Fiat Chrysler Group, LLC) The Chrysler Group acquired the Jeep brand back in 1987. The current model range is based around sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and off-road vehicles, although in the past they also manufactured pick-up trucks.

Jeep was founded in 1941, manufacturing vehicles solely for military use.  They were used extensively in the Second World War and gained such affection with both the army and the public that the first civilian models were produced in 1945, following the end of the war.

Having changed hands 9 times, the ownership of Jeep is now in steady hands and the brand is secure as makers of luxury 4x4s in their Cherokee models. The Jeep Wrangler is still a formidable off road performer also.
