Changing Your Vehicle During Lockdown

#StaySafeAtHome

We hope that everyone is staying safe and well as the Covid19 pandemic continues to ravage society across the world. Our number one concern is the health and safety of our customers at this time and our sites remain open to ensure that we cater for your emergency vehicle needs, wherever we can.

Buying and selling a car during Lockdown

Many of you may have been considering buying or selling a car prior to Lockdown and time at home can be used wisely with online research. If your heart is set on a particular vehicle, many sellers will take a deposit until such time that it is safe to physically purchase. Dealers are currently not allowed to trade, under Government guidelines.  Remember, if your sale or purchase isn’t essential right now, consider moving the date to comply with Lockdown.

However, buying or changing your vehicle at this time may be a necessity if you are a key worker or in the emergency services, and as many garages and retailers are still taking enquiries by phone and email, you can get in touch and discuss the options available. It is possible to buy a car without leaving home and as social distancing is still a legal requirement, check with the seller to ask if they are offering a home delivery service. They may be able to implement a collection for purchases and part-exchange. This will ensure that you don’t leave your home. You can still list a vehicle online and take queries from prospective buyers.

Hybrid or Electric Cars

If you are contemplating a switch to a more environmentally friendly vehicle, now is a great time to be doing the research and discover what is best for you. Remember though, that currently there are many factory closures and deliveries of all new vehicles may be delayed.

New Cars

Many dealerships may offer great deals during this time and don’t forget that the interest rate for most HP and PCP finance deals is affected by the Bank of England base rate which at the moment is very low. But… this is a time of uncertainty so don’t financially commit to something you may later regret. If you have a new car on order, the guidance on vehicle delivery is still unclear and should be delayed until after Lockdown measures are eased.

Legal rights

If your vehicle is found to be faulty after delivery, you are covered by The Consumer Rights Act and the Misrepresentation Act will protect your rights if the vehicle is not as described. The Consumer Contracts Regulations will also cover you if you decide to cancel your online order within 14 days of purchase.

Most importantly…

During this difficult time only consider changing your vehicle if it is absolutely necessary. Don’t risk spreading coronavirus. If you are self-isolating, please stay home – protect your family until the isolation period has passed and no-one is showing signs of infection.

This difficult period will pass and we will be able to pick up our day-to-day life again. Until that time comes, please know that everyone at A1 Clutches wishes you and your family a very safe passage through this difficult journey.
